When Advertising Goes Bad: Microsoft’s ‘A Fly on the Wall at Cupertino’…

In this latest episode of ‘When Advertising Goes Bad’ Microsoft has kindly provided the comical material, a video that seems to have been taken far too seriously by many people around the World.

The mighty MS received such an intense splattering of blow back from this advertisement gone bad that it has been shamed into pulling the video from circulation, claiming that it was just having a bit of harmless fun. Talking to CNET recently Microsoft explained the ad “was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino, but it was off the mark, and we’ve decided to pull it down.”

Called cringe worthy and painfully unfunny by many industry technorati, here at Highpants we think it was just plain hilarious.  We can see how it may not work as an advertisement for Microsoft, as no Microsoft products are mentioned, not even for comparison purposes but as a b-grade parody it rates highly in our books. On the poor taste PC scale it has to rate as a pretty minor stench, definitely not deserving the buzz it has generated and far funnier than many would suggest.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride thanks to Microsoft and their inability to predict how offensive they really are to the general populous. Don’t frown Microsoft, we still think you’re hilarious.
