Motor Trend magazine has this week answered the question on every car enthusiast’s mind, which is the fastest supercar in the world? Hosting the second annual World’s Greatest Drag Race Motor Trend has answered the question for another year.

With the latest models of the greatest examples of supercar design from Europe and the USA ready to do straight line battle the race is on. Motor Trend had assembled the fastest of the fast. Names we can only dream of are present; Lamborghini Aventador, Nissan GT-R Black Edition, Ford Shelby GT500, McLaren MP4-12C, Jaguar XKR-S, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Subaru BRZ, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Gathered at the abandoned runway of the El Toro Marine Base the scene was set, with 9 of the World’s fastest Supercars lined up in a row, as the revs build in anticipation the combined exhaust note shakes the ground beneath their rubber feet, the answer would soon be clear.

Last year the during the inaugural race the Japanese Supercar Godzilla, Nissan GTR, was the winner of the quarter mile race, beating the Ferrari 480, Lamborghini and every other supercar lined up against it.

This year the Lamborghini’s Avantador takes the prize, with 691bhp pouring through the four wheel drive system the Lambo proved its worth with a quarter mile time of 10.8 seconds (132.3mph). The 592bhp McLaren comes in a close second at 10.8 seconds and 130mph while the 2013 Godzilla was relegated to third place, still setting an amazing quarter mile time of 11.1 seconds and 124.3 mph.
