The transition to 4K is beginning in earnest, the next must have catch phrase technology is about to invade our living rooms. A hand full of manufacturers have used this week’s CES show to announce an affordable revolution with four $1000 55 inch UHD TV’s about to hit the market.
The heavy-weights of content delivery are already dividing the spoils; the first battles of the 4K revolution will take place on the internet. CES saw Netflix, YouTube and Amazon all demonstrating 4K content delivered via the internet, each making their intent to dominate clear to the competition. But what device will we use to play this content? What is the perfect media device for that brand new 4K TV?

After stunning the world by announcing the $25K price tag for its new top of the line TV, the monster sized 84 inch XBR-84X900, Sony has now soothed everyone’s pain by revealing the device will include 10 free 4k movies.
Sony have also revealed this week (November 29) that the new TV will be supplied with a loaner media device that will provide the free 4K content to the TV.
Sony had promised in November that they would provide native 4K content to the 4K monster TV, now that secret device has been revealed. The black box Ultra HD media player will be a hard drive based system that will be delivered pre-loaded with 10 movies, all in the glorious new 4K Ultra HD format.

Television, our window into a world of entertainment is evolving before our eyes. The next advancement in TV technology is taking shape; the rise of 4K television is nearly upon us.
This week the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) have formally established the 4k standard and given it a catchy new name in the process, UHD or Ultra High Definition. UHD is based around the new mega pixel resolution of 3840 x 2160, four times the number of pixels than 1080p.
As part of the standard all UHD display devices must have at least one digital input capable of receiving native 4k UHD images, no up-scaling.
