ASUS ROG ARES II. The Battle of the Uber Video Cards Reignites…

The Republic of Gamers, more gaming fanatic than communist enclave, the ROG team are in-fact a group of hard core gamers let loose in the ASUS labs. Developing hardware with the sole purpose of improving your gaming experience, gaining a legitimate advantage is secondary of course. Now the ROG team have released the latest entrant in the Uber Video card category, the ARES II.

The Ares II represents no compromise hardware, with a limited production run of 1,000 cards the Ares will be an exclusive card. Not helping the situation ASUS will price the ARES II at $1,500 USD.

This water cooled monster video card (over 30cm long) is based around a pair of AMD 7970 GHz edition GPU’s coupled with 6GB of Uber fast memory and all built onto a single PCB.

ATI’s Devil Inside. The PowerColor Devil 13 HD7990, The New King of Uber Video Cards…

The battle of the Uber video cards may have been in a lull of late, NVIDIA launched the last salvo some months ago with its GTX 690 dual GPU Uber video card, now it is time for ATI’s reply, the Devil 13 HD7990 by PowerColor.

Has AMD given up on Uber video cards? Unwilling to produce a dual GPU video card based on their latest Tahiti GPU, AMD has left the heavy lifting to PowerColor who designed the beast from the ground, with AMD’s blessing of course. The HD7990 is set to be a PowerColor exclusive, this is their baby after-all, adding to the exclusivity there will be only 500 of these Uber monsters produced.

Based on AMD latest GPU the HD7990 will include two Tahiti GPU’s, each clocked at 925Mhz. Over-clocking to 1000Mhz is built directly into the card, provided by the built in go faster button, literally.

NVidia’s GTX 690. The Kepler Twins, A Tale Of The Über Video Card Times Two…

NVidia has this week introduced the world to The Kepler Twins. Sounding like a new duo of Adult Entertainment superstars the Kepler Twins are instead the foundation of the world’s fastest video card, the new King of the Über video cards.

Some say everything is better in pairs. NVIDIA must agree as the GTX 690 sees NVidia pairing two GTX 680 Kepler GPU’s into a single video card. Available May 7 for $999 USD. Expect a plethora of full reviews once released. NVidia have a firm hold on the dual and single GPU performance crowns.

The GTX 690 is a spectacular piece of hardware, with its chromium-plated aluminium frame, molded magnesium alloy fan housing, and dual vapour chamber with nickel-plated fins the card resembles a piece of industrial artwork. At the rear are three dual link DVI ports and a mini Display port, with an adaptor for HDMI, the GTX 690 is able to drive a wall of 6 monitors for that fully immersive experience.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 590, the Uber Video Card Battle…

Nvidia’s answer to a question that no one can afford has been released, the dual GPU Nvidia GTX 590 is here to challenge the king of Uber video cards the ATI 6990. ATI no longer has the Uber video card market to itself, their 6990 video card may still hold the speed crown – only just – but the GTX 590 is hot on it’s heals, the king has some competition.

With a card like the GTX 590 a massive budget is required, $700 USD RRP for the video card might scare the hell out of most people but if your still interested then you’ll need to make sure you can supply the right environment, the infrastructure to support it. The parts you put around this video card will help to get the most out of it. Your case needs 30cm of space for the card, a 700 watt power supply is required to keep this bad boy juiced up, the card will chew 365 watts of power during gaming. You’ll need two 8pin power plugs connected just to start the card.
