Upgrading that trusty old laptop or desktop PC is a risky and exciting adventure. Full of expectation, spending large wads of cash and anticipation that eventually wanes giving way to business as usual.

Here at Highpants we recently found ourselves in this very situation, in the market for a new PC. Working in the IT industry this requires a machine that can handle developing databases one minute and writing on the go the next.

Microsoft Re-Surfaces Tablets, the PC Evolved….

Starting the build up to what will be an enormous Christmas for new products Microsoft has this week (Sept 23) announced a new generation of Surface tablets, re-vamping the Surface range.

Presented on this fine day in New York was the evolution of the Surface range, nothing radical but with the updated hardware and new accessories the Surface and Surface Pro are starting to make far more sense.  October 22 has been set as the release date (most countries) for the Surface tablets, with many of the accessories due in early 2014.

Watching elephants learn to dance is a highly amusing pastime we can all enjoy, although if the Surface Pro 2 is any indication they may finally have found a little rhythm. Can they turn their Surfaces into all they can be?

AMD Enters the Tablet CPU Race: The Jaguar based Temash, Kabini and Kaveri Race to the Rescue…

AMD has this week released more details of their new silicon number crunchers, all based on the now famous Jaguar micro-architecture.An architecture that is soon to be at the heart of both next generation consoles, the PS4 and Xbox 720.

AMD’s latest generation of power miser hopes to redress the dilemma of mobile computing. How to provide enough grunt to run the full blown version of Windows 8 Pro, allowing casual gaming and desktop applications while running on only a few watts of power.  The Jaguar architecture embodies every trick AMD has up its sleeve to achieve this difficult balance, will it be enough?
