A little over a week ago now a single piece of news shocked the tech world to its core. LucasFilm had been acquired by Disney, George it seems had passed the Star Wars torch on to a new generation of cinematic wizards.
Disney announced the news on October 30. Disney CEO and George Lucas finalised the deal, signing on the dotted line and requiring one very large cheque, Disney paid $4.05 Billion USD. Instantly the legions of Star Wars fans set electrons flying as the internet groaned under millions of concerned questions.
Lucas at the press event tried his best to allay the fears of the many, “For the past 35 years [35 it has been young Luke], one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.”

Rovio’s marketing machine is beginning to build up steam, cylinders firing and gears spinning, turning up the noise on Angry Birds Star Wars. Three teaser trailers have been released in the last week and details have begun to emerge of the gameplay as Rovio drip feeds the hungry media.
Included for your viewing pleasure are the three hilarious Angry Birds Star Wars trailers; No Moon, Han’s Kessel Run and Too Short. As the preview videos demonstrate all of the classic scenes are being recreated in the game. Also included is the preview video that gives us all a sneak peak at the levels, characters and gameplay. Rovio has plans afoot. Not content with the success of Bad Piggies Rovio has teased the world with tantalizing details of brand partnership between Angry Birds and Star Wars. A partnership so fiendishly clever it leads us to believe Rovio is planning to take over Christmas.
Have the Angry Birds learned to use the force or are the Rebels in possession of a new deadly weapon, the avian catapult. Details are still sketchy on the nature of the partnership; all we know for now is that the first public outing is set for 10am October 8, the location, New York’s Time Square Toy’s R Us store.
LucasArts is well known for promotional partnerships; here at Highpants the original Lego Star Wars is still the greatest example of a marketing marriage made in heaven.
