Arx Pax and their Hendo Hoverboard technology are heading for space. After attracting much attention Arx Pax this month announced their partnership with NASA, a partnership to take their magnetic technology to space. Sadly NASA isn’t interested in seeing astronauts zipping about on hoverboards but instead they will be creating a tractor beam system to move around micro satellites.
As a mechanism to generate publicity the Hendo Hoverboard was extremely successful, as a hoverboard not so much. This was due to the requirement of the ground being covered in specific metals for the board to hover everywhere. Like the Lexus Slide hovering cannot be achieved on just any surface such as that covering the real world. Luckily satellites are already covered in the required metals making the magnetic magic work just fine.

The Lexus Slide is the latest interpretation of the high tech dream, a form of friction-less levitating transport. The latest to make the world wonder, is it really a Hoverboard? Slide is a working high tech wonder with one small caveat, it needs something to push against. It isn’t a ‘Back to the Future’ Hoverboard but instead a maglev skateboard, which in the end may be even cooler.
Inside the Slide Lexus design genius Haruhiko Tanakashi has managed to squeeze multiple high temperature superconductors that will resist the magnet field of a permanent magnet with enough force to lift it and a fully grown man into the air. The superconductors used by Lexus only take on their special properties when cooled to -197 degrees Celsius hence the steam coming out of the side of the Slide which is the exhaust of the liquid nitrogen cooling system keeping the superconductors super chilly.

Representing the ultimate form of personal freedom hoverboards for now remain a dream but many people are working hard to keep the dream alive, Hendo included. Catalin Alexandru Duru is another such individual, having spent the past 12 months working on his own propeller driven hoverboard he has this week proven his tech works by riding it to a new distance record for Hoverboard flight.
With Guinness on hand Catalin took to the air flying 275 meters before setting down in the calm waters of Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada. A record that surpassed the previous by 225 meters. Very little is known of the technology used in Catalin’s interpretation of the Hoverboard, it appears to be 4 very powerful quadcopters, but for a first official flight it seemed to work well. This may be one situation where lots of smaller propellers really is better than a few large propellers.
Presented for your viewing pleasure is the World Record flight of one impressive flying machine and its whacky pilot. Sit back relax and prepare to be amazed by the hoverboard that does more; slices dices mixes dispenses. But wait there’s more.

Dreams can and do come true, before our very eyes science fiction is turning to fact one idea at a time. Levitating transportation is one such dream that has recently taken another step towards becoming an everyday reality, all thanks to the Henderson’s. American company Hendo Hover (Jill and Greg Henderson) and their Hover Engine present electromagnetic lift and propulsion in action, this is the Hoverboard, and this time it’s REAL.
As a technology demonstration platform the Hoverboard was an excellent choice up until Funny or Die pulled their HuvrBoard prank on the world. Tony Hawk is still shaking his head in disbelief that people believed the Funny or Die prank was real, now as you will see below the half pipe legend has teamed up with Hendo to present the REAL hoverboard, reparations anyone.

It’s official, the Back to the Future II hoverboard video was a fake. FunnyOrDie have acknowledged trying to fool the world once more. It may not have fooled everyone but it was a very convincing video that used many of the same effects as used by the movie.
The world was indeed sad to find out the dream wasn’t real but the follow-up videos may actually be more captivating than the original, and hilarious. Tony Hawk was a little dismayed by the backlash at the admission of the video’s fakery; he thought it was pretty obviously a fake. The hilarious Christopher Lloyd continues the FunnyOrDie apology by announcing a competition to win the fake hover board used in the original fake. A real apology or continuation of a bit? As always you decide.
Presented for your viewing pleasure are the follow up videos for the Huvrboard experiment, Tony Hawks in disbelief and Christopher Lloyd apologetic, that alone is worth the price of admission. Sit back, relax and let the astonishment begin.

The future as depicted by the movie Back to the Future continues to become a reality; if the internet is to be believed. The latest video to get the internet buzzing appears to demonstrate Marty McFly’s hoverboard in action, as demonstrated by Tony Hawk and friends.
Marty McFly’s hoverboard is one of the most memorable props from the series, possibly one of the most memorable of the 80’s. This only makes the transition from fiction to reality even more spectacular. Will we soon all be zooming along effortlessly on completely frictionless transportation?
Presented for your viewing pleasure is the video that appears to be bringing our high tech dreams to life, science fiction fantasies materialized. Sit back, relax and let the arguing begin.
