A little over a week ago now a single piece of news shocked the tech world to its core. LucasFilm had been acquired by Disney, George it seems had passed the Star Wars torch on to a new generation of cinematic wizards.
Disney announced the news on October 30. Disney CEO and George Lucas finalised the deal, signing on the dotted line and requiring one very large cheque, Disney paid $4.05 Billion USD. Instantly the legions of Star Wars fans set electrons flying as the internet groaned under millions of concerned questions.
Lucas at the press event tried his best to allay the fears of the many, “For the past 35 years [35 it has been young Luke], one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.”
