Game developer Plarium has recently jammed Facebook full of gunpowder and lit the fuse with its new Facebook RTS action game Soldiers Inc. The year is 2019 and a modern land grab is taking place, countries and corporations battling for wealth of all kinds.
Soldiers Inc sees players led through missions by Mr Black, earning experience and money, expanding your base and recruiting more soldiers. Of course as your base expands more resources are required, and the cycle goes on. The tech tree is unlocked over time and expands as experience and research accumulates. In game payments can be used to accelerate all of these processes.

Sing along everyone, “Android, Android, Android, Android, android everywhere”. Android is slowly taking over the world, now it is preparing to invade our living rooms, taking its place on our big screen TV’s. The $99 USD Ouya Android based game console is the spearhead of this invasion.
While big screen gaming in the living room has been ruled by the big three consoles PlayStation, XBox and Wii, a new player has entered the scene. A new player that has bought a gun to a knife fight. Ouya have from the outset taken a different approach to console gaming, when compared the the established names, adopting an open source and mobile inspired approach.
Raising $4.5 million in 4 days Ouya is one of the fastest funded Kickstarter projects in history. With the majority of investors (29,000) pledging the $100’s required to secure a console. The huge amount of early interest and influx of cash has also allowed Ouya to increase the initial production run to 80,000, enough to make a decent impact on the market. Set for full release Q1 2013 Ouya is preparing to change the console world.

Wolfenstein 3D by id software, the seminal moment in PC gaming. A game burnt into the retina’s of all people near a PC at the time, has turned 20 years old.
id’s current owners Bethesda Software have joined the original development team to celebrate the occasion. Helping to foster the nostalgia they have made Wolfenstein 3D available free to play online. Currently browser only play with support for version 16 and above of Chrome, Firefox 11 and IE 9, Safari 5.
Also included for your viewing pleasure are two video’s, the first is a 25 minute interview with John Carmack, Wolfenstein 3D’s Director Commentary with an interesting perspective and history of developing the game. The second video is a catchy Wolfenstein mix down, nice work OriginalVMix.

Microsoft has after much rumor and speculation made the free to play flight simulator, Flight, available for download. Not a direct replacement for the quintessential Flight Simulator, instead Microsoft Flight hopes to bring the wonders of flight to a whole new generation.
The new free to play game already has a number of paid extras available for download. World War 2 Mustang, extra terrain and missions, The initial free map encompasses the main Hawaiian island. Starting with the Big Island of Hawaii, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft expands the maps and missions, will there be more free to play maps?
Holders of a Windows Live gaming account can get extra freebies by signing up through their Live account, it’s also the easiest way to register for the game.

The enigmatic role playing experience that is EverQuest – EQ – will soon be joining the Free To Play – F2P – revolution. The new F2P world should be open for play at the start of March, in the build-up to the 13th birthday EQ on March 16. The original and many say still the best, EQ F2P takes us to the distant land of Norrath to explore and adventure in this fantasy world. Continuing its grand tradition with immersive gameplay, captivating storytelling and exciting worlds, this is the EQ legacy. A legacy that is embracing a whole new way of playing. Your way.
EQ F2P will allow a whole new generation of players to join those already haunted by the EQ experience. No date has been set for the official start of the F2P model, early March is the only clue given. Although Thom Terrazas – EverQuest Producer – did let slip that a number of events would be held in the week leading up to the 13th birthday celebrations. Hopefully F2P should be up and running by the 6th of March.
