Hatsune Miku: “Sharing the World” on the Letterman Show…

Stalwart of late night television David Letterman recently featured a radical departure from his usual mix of Hollywood celebrities, instead presenting the android diva of the near future Hatsune Miku performing her popular track “Sharing the World”. Roughly translated Miku’s names means the first sound from the future and she is living up to her name as the first popular digital virtual performer, she is an avatar superstar.

Presented for your viewing pleasure is the life sized anime rock star, a sight that may just be far more common in the not too distant future. Sit back, relax and let the virtually live performance begin.

Hatsune Miku is the product of the Japanese company Crypton Future Media and Yamaha’s Vocaloid engine. She was first brought to life in 2007 as a marketing tool for Cryptons speech synthesis software. The software is now massive and Miku is developing a life of her own. The anime inspired virtual singer performs at concerts and inspires entire Comicon nights dedicated to her likeness, she is now far more than an advertising avatar to many people.

What the future holds for Miku is hard to say, she’s already hugely popular and she’s not even holographic yet. The only thing we really know for sure is that Miku will never age.
