Single player mode made GTA famous, this time RockStar have made it bigger and more bad ass than ever. The game world for the fifth edition is bigger than the worlds of Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV combined, even the underwater landscape of the coastline can be explored. The open world itself is based roughly on Los Angeles and Southern California.

For the first time in GTA we follow 3 protagonists; Michael is a retired bank robber in his early forties who lives with his dysfunctional family on the proceeds of his former life in the upper-class suburb of Rockford Hills, based on Beverly Hills. Trevor Phillips, his former partner, lives alone in a trailer in the desert of Blaine County, his reckless and psychopathic behaviours being fuelled by a drug addiction. Franklin makes a living in Vespucci Beach — based on Venice Beach — as a repo man for an unscrupulous Armenian car dealership. The three acquaintances are drawn into Los Santos’ criminal underworld “in the pursuit of the almighty American dollar”

GTA’s reputation has been built on pure simplicity, the open world sandbox mode made this franchise famous, this time round Rockstar have not neglected the sandbox. Not only is it the largest open world ever but there a more hidden treasures to discover than we thought possible. Check out the secrets video for a little insight into Rockstar’s mind.

The in-game graphics for GTA V are incredibly detailed, getting closer to photo-realism all the time. Rockstar have created a high definition world for us to experience. While the games map size is incredible the detail of each of these habitats is even more impressive. Explore the entire underwater coastline, hunt for treasure or spear a dolphin, it’s your call.

RockStar have promised something special for multiplayer. GTA V will introduce Crews and a new Social Club that allows players to become members of public or private Crews. Crews established in other Rockstar games, Max Payne and GTA 4 at the moment, can be carried over into GTA V while experience points can be gained as part of a crew when tasks are completed.

Amazon has recently let slip the GTA V release date, a foot in mouth type of incident that Amazon are developing a reputation for. According to Amazon March 26 2013 looks to be the big day, if the Amazon product listing that was very quickly taken down can be believed.

GTA has always embraced all aspects of life, the good, the bad and the ugly. With their tongue firmly in cheek they present an unlimited life without boundaries. GTA V looks to take the most exceptional and extreme GTA game so far, cranking it well past 11. Suffice as to say GTA V is going to be huge.
