Futurama has been Cancelled, Again!…

Futurama has been cancelled. A twisted little tale of the future as seen through the eyes of a group of package delivering misfits, misfits that won our hearts. The team from Planet Express is now packing boxes.

After being cancelled the first time in 2003 a series of direct to DVD movies were produced. The movies proved so popular that Comedy Central brought the show back and it was better than ever. Now Comedy Central has decided not to renew Futurama and the final curtail will (once again) fall, at the end of the current 7th season.

According to EW (Entertainment Weekly) Comedy Central’s EVP of Programming Dave Bernath views the network’s decision as “the natural end” to the show’s improbable comeback. “That’s a helluva run that few shows achieve, and especially given the fact that it came back to life, it’s really an amazing story,” he says. “I’m more thankful and feel a sense of gratitude toward the whole process — and that we found a way to keep going for 52 more episodes — than I really am even thinking about the ending. It’s a blessing that it came back and lasted so long.”

The shows creator Matt Groening hasn’t given up on Futurama just yet, holding out hope of finding a forth home for Futurama.

The final episode will air September 4, Groening is planning a big send of for this incarnation of Futurama. Commenting to EW Groening said “It’s a really satisfying ending. It’s an epic ending, if indeed it’s the ending.”
