Sony PSN, Play Station Notworking…

Did the Playstation Network become self-aware at 17:00 hours on April 19, realizing the incompetence of those it worked for it quickly tried to bug out. According to the Terminator TV Series, “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” April 19 was the date that Skynet became self-aware, a little spooky maybe.

The Play Station Nightmare goes a little something like this, Sony on the 19th April took the PSN and Qriocity services completely offline. For clarity’s sake we need to say that this was just the date Sony took the services offline, no one is sure exactly when the PSN servers were first hacked. Sony is saying officially that sometime between April 17 and 19 they became aware of external intruders on the PSN. For 6 days after taking the servers down – April 19 – Sony made no comment, on the seventh day there was light and explanation.

Sony admitted they had suffered the largest single network intrusion in history. Over 80 million user accounts had been compromised both user data and credit card details were compromised..

Free 2 Play, The Gathering Storm…

The world of computer gaming is going through a quiet revolution. Free2Play games – F2P – are taking over the spare time of people everywhere. It’s not just for the boys either, girls are spending enough time on Facebook F2P games that their X-Box addicted boyfriends are complaining.

You may think that as the name suggests these are free games, sadly no. While there is still a wide selection of free and fun games out there, it’s the new entrants to the market – micro-payment games – that are most interesting. Unlike traditional games you don’t pay to join or install a copy of the game. It’s very clever, since you only pay little bits, its small enough that you don’t even think about it. Generally the payment is tied to something within the game making it just blend into the action. F2P is no longer just an alternative, don’t underestimate this new sales model – revolution.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 590, the Uber Video Card Battle…

Nvidia’s answer to a question that no one can afford has been released, the dual GPU Nvidia GTX 590 is here to challenge the king of Uber video cards the ATI 6990. ATI no longer has the Uber video card market to itself, their 6990 video card may still hold the speed crown – only just – but the GTX 590 is hot on it’s heals, the king has some competition.

With a card like the GTX 590 a massive budget is required, $700 USD RRP for the video card might scare the hell out of most people but if your still interested then you’ll need to make sure you can supply the right environment, the infrastructure to support it. The parts you put around this video card will help to get the most out of it. Your case needs 30cm of space for the card, a 700 watt power supply is required to keep this bad boy juiced up, the card will chew 365 watts of power during gaming. You’ll need two 8pin power plugs connected just to start the card.
