The Age of Hubble, a Cosmic Journey…

Hubble and other space borne satellites are our eyes in the sky and have been peering into the depths of space for nearly a quarter of a century. The sights they have seen with our eyes is nothing short of spectacular.

These instruments of learning that are perched at the very edge of space with a view unlike any here on Earth are helping us to unravel the mysteries of the Cosmos and reminding us just how much there is left to discover, how very little we know.

YouTube channel SpaceRip have scoured the archives of video captured by these high tech telescopes and produced the stunning short film ‘The Age of Hubble 4k Rough Cut’. In one short video SpaceRip have captured the heart of the original 1980’s ‘Cosmos: A Personal Voyage’ series by Carl Sagan. Relieving for just a moment the disappointment that was the remake of Cosmos by Neil deGrasse Tyson and Seth McFarlaine, a show that had less wonder and amazement than a conference on accounting principles.

LaFerrari vs McLaren P1: The Battle of the Hypercars Heats Up…

While many of us judge a good day based on the simple things in life, good food, good company or even getting everything you wanted for Christmas the lucky journalists at CAR Magazine TV have much higher standards. In their world a good day involves such things as spending the day testing the world’s most advanced Hypercars.

Made In Space: The First 3D Printed Tool Produced in Space…

Back in 2011 we reported that the Industrial Revolution of 3D printing was headed for space. At the time Californian company Made In Space (MIS) were preparing to send the first space compatible 3D printer to the ISS (International Space Station), hoping to make the astronauts lives easier and allowing them to be more self sufficient, less dependent on the delivery man.

Now after 3 years of tests and design improvements the microwave sized 3D printer has been put to use and the first piece of equipment to roll off the production line is a humble socket wrench, nothing fancy but extremely practical.

Night of the Northern Lights…

The interaction between Earth’s magnetic field and highly charged particles fired at us by the Sun can generate Aurora at both poles of the Earth. In the Northern hemisphere these displays are called the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. Generally the stronger the solar storm the more eye-catching the show and the further south the show can be seen.

On the 25th of February 2014 the Sun shot a powerful X4.9 flare directly towards Earth and on the 27th it arrived in spectacular fashion, producing the brightest auroral display seen during the current solar maximum.

Maciej Winiarczyk headed to far northern Scotland for the occasion as soon as the flare had been spotted leaving the Sun and the results are remarkable. The video contains no CGI, no effects and is simply a very well shot time-lapse.

Presented for your viewing pleasure is the time altering art form of time-lapse photography put to spectacular use capturing one of Earths incredible talents, turning highly radioactive particles into a light show of incredible scale and beauty. Sit back, relax and we recommend going full screen on this one, it is well worth it.
