Carbon Nanotubes woven into a fine thread are about to take over the world. The first stop for CN thread is to improve the most stubborn design in history, the electric motor.
Engineers at LUT (Lappeenranta University of Technology) have this week demonstrated the first electric motor to be constructed using CN thread in place of copper as the motors windings. The prototype motor produces 40 Watts of output power, spins at 15,0000 RPM and achieves an efficiency of 70%, not bad numbers for a first try.
Scientists in Brittan have been hard at work perfecting an entirely new way to consume cocktails, the Levitron. Levitating droplets of Gin and Tonic or Bloody Mary in mid air ready for drinkers to consume, although it’s still disputable how convenient slurping up the droplets will be but it is spectacular.
Inventors Charlie Harry Francis and Professor Bruce Drinkwater also hope to eventually produce levitating popcorn and levitating cutlery, ultimately one day we may be able to float our entire dinner right into our mouth.

NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory this week (Oct 2) captured an M7.3 flare, a mid-sized flare that posed little threat to Earth. GE have conjured up a cunning plan in order to push their brand new and very impressive GE Link LED Bulb, the smartphone controlled long life LED bulb. The cunning plan you see involves using humour to get viewers to drop their guard just long enough for the Link bulb to sell itself. At $14.97 it may well do that.
Link LED bulbs use a Wink home automation base station to control brightness and scheduling, they still need to be turned on and off at the switch and the can’t email you when their sad but they are cheap and connected.
