Microsoft and Unity3D have this week announced a partnership that will make it easier for all inspiring developers to bring games and apps to life, especially on Microsoft’s platforms.
This new agreement brings optimizations for Microsoft’s latest platforms to Unity’s development environment (Windows 8.1, Windows Phone and Xbox One). Unity Pro licensed developers will receive free access to the ‘Windows Store Add-on’ which includes support for Windows Store apps and Windows Phone 8 apps.
Starting life as an OS/X game development tool in 2005 Unity has grown into a highly advanced multi-platform game development environment. Version 4.1 was released in March, version 4.2 is now in testing and includes all of the latest optimizations for Microsoft’s platforms.

Windows 8.1, the final product draws ever nearer. Originally introduced to the world as Windows Blue in March the preview is now available for download while the final release should happen in Q4.
With the new Blue version of Window’s comes the return of the start button and the ability to boot to the desktop. Has the behemoth responded to the public outcry caused by their attempt to diminish the desktop?
This isn’t the only recent case of Microsoft buckling to public pressure, their back-down on the Xbox One’s always on requirement and removing the ban on second hand software were no small victories for the public. Initially Microsoft fell into old habits, with executive Don Mattrick publicly stating if you don’t have the internet, required for the always connected One, then buy an Xbox 360. Still they did come round eventually.

Jack Black is back, bringing laughs a plenty with Adult Wolf, a parody movie trailer for the follow up to the 80’s comedy hit Teen Wolf. The teen cult classic stared Michael J. Fox as the original basketball playing werewolf Scott Howard.
Skip thirty years into the future and we find Scott and his father Harold living in a trailer having hit hard times. Down on his luck Scott has no job, no girlfriend and one very annoying roommate. Over the thirty years since the original Scott has transformed into a hairy Jack Black, having lost his ability to transform into his human form could life get any wore for everyone’s favorite slam dunking werewolf.
Adult Wolf sees Black team up with old buddy Kyle Glass, the two generations of Howard are joined by John C. McGinley, Rachel Bilson, Ed Begley Jr. and Jimmy Kimmel’s Live show team to tell the tale of this young teen wolf who had everything but lost it all.

In the fast changing silicon world a company needs to be nimble, NVIDIA is such a company. The jolly green giant of graphics companies is preparing to take the radical step of licensing its Intellectual Property, allowing other companies to produce chips using NVIDIA’s technology.
The fast paced growth of the mobile sector along with the success of ARM and PowerVR, the two dominant companies in the mobile sector, has to be a major motivation for NVIDIA. While NVIDIA already sells its own Tegra all in one chipset to manufacturers selling its IP to chip designers opens up markets for the company.
NVIDIA’s initial portfolio will include Kepler graphics core designs, visual compute technology and rumors suggest eventually they will add their LTE modem technology. Being a new market for NVIDIA it will take time to build the eco-system around their new IP products. To date there are no customers for the new offerings but it is early days.

AMD has reignited the silicon wars during this year’s E3, announcing the first commercially available processor to break the 5GHz barrier, the FX-9590. Is AMD closing the high performance gap with Intel?
The brand new FX-9590 is an evolutionary step for the FX family that brings a healthy speed bump over the previous generation FX-8350. Tweaking the silicon design and manufacturing process has allowed the Turbo Mode to jump from 4.2GHsz to the magic 5GHz mark. Base clock speed has also dramatically increased from 4Ghz to 4.7Ghz.
As with all FX processors the new silicon is fully unlocked for easy overclocking, something the new FX excels at. Early reports suggest water-cooling will see the latest FX scream past the 5.5GHz mark.

December 30 2012, a cool grey winter’s morning at Gatwick airport sees the morning rush beginning. At a little before 9am the flights were already beginning to stack-up on approach.
Coming in to land at Gatwick airport is a task carried out by thousands of pilots every year, normally without incident, not so on this morning however. This morning something strange was in the air.
On approach two minutes out from Gatwick the first sighting of the disks is made. All three pilots of the Boeing 777 report sighting two flat silver disks stationary or moving very slowly 100 feet below. The pilots went on to report the disks as looking man-made while being almost toy like.
