With 2012 well underway Sony has sent the rumour mill spinning at top speed. News of their next generation PlayStation 4, code name Orbis, the cause of the stir.
Capturing much attention is the talk of 4k gaming, gaming at the screen shattering resolution of 4096*2160. All signs are pointing to a Q4 2013 release of the console, with word from developers indicating dev kits have already been made available to some developers.
The draconian measures planned to stop second hand games re-sales are highly controversial, Sony refusing to comment on unreleased products, the decision still not set in stone we believe. As always won’t someone think of the children.
The war of the next generation consoles is heating up already, and they haven’t even been released yet. While Microsoft kept the rumour mill spinning with tales of its X-Box 720 or ‘Durango’, it is now Sony’s turn at the wheel. Kotaku are reporting sources close to Sony revealing some juicy details regarding the Sony’s next generation PlayStation 4, codename ‘Orbis’.

After a year slaving at their keyboards the development team behind XBMC have emerged from their dungeon. The clever XBMC monkeys have at last released XBMC 11, code name Eden. This simple piece of open source software is able to convert any humble PC into a TV blasting multimedia device.
This widely used software has over the years grown a massive community and spread itself across the major computing platform, Windows, Linux, OSX, and iOS. Those willing to jailbreak their AppleTV can even run XMBC on the little black box.
The key to XMBC is the interface, specially designed to be seen on a TV from 10 feet away everything about XMBC is the opposite to how a PC normally works. Favouring remote controls over keyboards and losing the desktop, replaced with animated menu’s this is a proper multimedia centre interface.

After many weeks of NVIDIA preparing the world for their brand new graphics processor, with the wheels of the marketing machine running at full speed NVIDIA’s new GPU the GK104 has been introduced to the world. The basis of the new GFX 680 the war of the Über video card has swung back in NVIDIA’s favour.
NVIDIA’s new design emphasizes power efficiency and performance where-as the previous generation chips went for performance at any cost. Strangely though the previous generation were beaten by AMD while this new more power efficient design ends being up to 3 times faster – per watt of power – than the previous generation chips and soundly beats AMD’s latest, the HD 7970.
In one foul swoop NVIDIA have stolen the crown back, reaching over and taking the crown right off the kings brow. While the GTX 680 video card slaps AMD back into second place NVIDIA isn’t done yet, they may have an ace up their sleeve. The GTX 680 is cheaper, faster and lower power than AMD’s best, the 7970, the King is dead. Long live the new King.

Home Wi-Fi users aren’t the only people struggling with interference. Adjusting antenna to get the signal to bounce just around right may be an activity of the past. Scientist from FermiLab have successfully tested communication using Neutrinos, the most unstoppable sub atomic particles in the universe.
Using a particle accelerator the scientists were able to fire the Neutrinos through 240meters of solid stone to a receiver on the other side. The first transmission was akin to Bells first message over his new phone, in this case the message read neutrino
Neutrinos are almost massless and magnetically neutral, allowing them to pass through almost anything at nearly the speed of light. This ability to complete ignore the world as it passes by makes Neutrino’s perfect as a communications signal.
The Sun naturally emits trillions of Neutrino’s every second as a by-product of the fusion process, these Neutrinos are constantly passing through the Earth without wavering. Neutrinos are the most oblivious of the sub atomic particles.

While it may not be the newest video on YouTube, it is it’s first appearance on Highpants. Once again NASA have supplied evidence of something most unusual travelling through the vastness of space.
NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope using it’s Wide Field Camera 3, has happened upon this sight most unusual. Captured by its lens is what appears to be a trident shaped craft trailing through streams of space dust. There appears to be a solid craft within, with an unusual but very angular shape. No matter what the object may be it looks very science-fiction’y, straight out of an episode of Star Trek – Next Generation.
Study the video for yourself, asteroid debris or the coolest looking UFO seen in years.
