EZ-Robot: Will The Real Wall-E Please Stand Up…

Robotics is a burgeoning field, just like computers 30 years ago robotics is moving from the exclusive labs of the of the übernoid to the world of the everyday enthusiast, bringing robotics to anyone with a little curiosity. EZ-Robot, a Canadian company is doing just that, aiming to bring robotics to the masses. The EZ-Robot kit and Wall-E project is just one of the many robots available on EZ’s site, from creepy insect robots to miniature Daleks. Don’t be fooled by Wall-E’s cute face this isn’t just another remote control toy, Wall-E responds to voice commands, plays chase the ball and can even dance to his favorite song. He sighs when you take his ball away and sings when he’s happy.

DJ Sures and his team at EZ-Robot have released the hardware kit and software – EZ-Builder – that will allow anyone to easily construct their very own Wall-E robot, no soldering or programming required. This includes taking advantage of voice recognition, joystick support and camera object recognition.

The EZ-B Robot Controller is the key to EZ-Robot’s simplicity and power. From the outset DJ Sures set out to create an all-in-one hardware and software solution for robotics. The circuit board contains a powerful voltage regulator, a Bluetooth antenna module, digital I/O, ADC, servo control, serial ports, MIDI connection, TellyMate interface, and more.

EZ will even supply you with simple to use software that allows you to use visual tools program Wall-E yourself, you can if you wish use standard programming tool such as Visual Studio to program Wall-E, EZ-Builder is also included that allows code free programming of your robot.

The EZ-Robot system is also being targeted at education and robotics researchers, the fact that it is so easy to work with makes it an excellent fast robot prototyping system and eduction tool. Once you have learned to use the basic kit you can continue to add more parts to your robot buddy, adding new function and hardware when it becomes available.

DJ Sures – DJ is his name not an abbreviation for Disc Jockey – has had many years experience working with robotics for the Oil industry, eventually shifting to his current EZ works. With years of experience behind him DJ is now determined to bring his passion for Robotics to anyone with the same passion, even if they have no electronics or programming knowledge.

The team at EZ-Robot have set the standard for simplicity, power and flexibility with the EZ-Robot project. The EZ-Robot system signifies the maturing of robotics technology, we are now at the point the basic framework is standardized and more advanced functions like advanced behavior and more detailed environmental awareness are on the horizon.

The EZ-Robot kit sells for $235 USD, you will also need to purchase the Wall-E toy if you are aiming to build your very own Wall-E. The toy Wall-E is converted by replacing it’s internals with the parts from the kit. The day of personal robotics is fast approaching and it looks hilarious.
